What we
WHY USE US?
The one thing you can say about student life is that you have a lot of people ready to help. There are a number of community based organisations, wider networks, even the University’s own support services all ready to help with very specific things as you need them.
So what makes the WSU Student Support and Advocacy different?
The first and perhaps the most important is that it doesn’t cost you anything. We are an organisation by students and for students. The second reason is we know what you are going through and we don’t say that in some cliché marketing way – instead the advocates we hire and train are usually either current students or recent graduates. We wanted to make sure that when you tell us your problems you don’t also need to explain to us where your faculty is or what the structure of your course is.
Not only are we providing a free and confidential space for you but we are also the first ones to admit when we don’t know something. Our job isn’t always to solve your problem but to make sure that you have all the options in front of you and someone standing beside you if you need it. If we aren’t the right person to get you the information you need then we will work relentlessly to find you the answer, put you in touch with the right people, and then follow up with you to make sure you got the answers you need.

What we help with
The general rule is that we will help with just about anything we can so nothing is off limits. But here are some of the basics:
Academic
- Special Consideration
- Course Concerns
- Academic Misconduct (Plagiarism)
- Withdrawals or Deferrals
- Placement Concerns
Financial Hardships and Budgeting
We have all had hard times or run into unexpected issues. What we offer is a no judgement service that helps get you back on your feet. This includes some budgeting and food pack help.
Crucially we can even help with IRD, WINZ and Studylink so you don’t have to sit through your 19th Dave Dobbyn song while on hold.
Flatting
The easiest way we can describe how we help without using words like tenancy court and arbitration is to say that if you have a problem with flat inspections, bond payments, insurances or landlords who are disputing things with you then we can step in and help.
