NEXUS has a Monster Load of Coke (and Fries)
Date: Monday 2nd, Tuesday 3rd March
Time: 12.00pm
Location: Village Green
For health and safety reasons and in large part because we don’t want to lose the University a Medical School we wish to be implicitly clear that YOUR STUDENT MAGAZINE – BY STUDENTS FOR STUDENTS – NEXUS have invited our friends from Coca-Cola and Monster down to the Green while NEXUS plays “Soda” pong and other harmless games. BurgerFuel will be there too so get your Free Fries.
NEXUS Sound Check Sausage Party
Date: Monday 2nd – Friday 6th March
Time: 12.00pm
Location: Village Green
Nothing says a sausage party like Nexus. We gave them an Aux and a budget and said to Joe and Alex find us five acts that can play Orientation Week 2. Every week in Nexus they will be posting, interviewing, and annoying some of the best acts and rare gems from Kirikiriroa and across the Motu. Check out Nexus Sound Check every week in Nexus Mag and Nexusmag.co.nz… and come get some free sausages. It is the only thing we trust the board to cook.
Who Ate All The Pies?
Date: Monday 2nd March
Time: 1.00pm
Location: Village Green
This year, the WSU is launching “Half Baked”, our pop-up shop run by our very own head of catering, Suneha. What better way to say “The WSU is running a half bakery, sandwich, soup and other student-friendly priced meals multiple times a week in the SUB (keep following us at @Waikatostudents for details),” than to let some idiots run around eating our own fresh pies while drinking things we aren’t explicitly hoping will make them vomit. That’s right it’s a MEAT PIE MILE!
WSU GTFO
Date: Monday 2nd – Friday 6th March
Time: All Day
Location: Village Green
WSU is telling students to “Get Their Flying On!” That is what we told the University social media team we would officially call it. And when they approved it we told them we would handle the rest. So if you want to Get The Fuck Out… of Hamilton for a few nights, then you should compete and take part in multiple activities in week one and two to be in the draw for a mystery weekend for two. Good luck getting your flying (?) on.
Laser Tag

Time: 7.00pm
Location: Village Green
Laser. Tag. Bitches! Mapped out course, rotating groups in and out in 15-minute spaces. Work hard, and you can become the Orientation 2026 Laser Tag Champion. We aren’t keeping score or having a tournament, but we just figure it will be like when you play your friends at FIFA, they know who the champion is.

Clubs Day
Date: Wednesday 4th March
Time: 10.00am
Location: Village Green
Clubs Day is the least funny description in the WSU Orientation Program (unless you read the Tauranga ones, we are still working on humour with them. The truth is, Thethe Waikato Students’ Union was built on Student Support, on Student Voice and a general promise to look after your Hauora while providing you with a student experience. But if those things make up the body of our reason to be here, then surely it is without question the diverse and engaged rōpū that give the campus its soul. It doesn’t matter whether you are into football, passionate about Māori kapa haka or like to wear a road cone and talk religion (your guess is as good as ours), clubs day is about finding your people. If you can’t do that, then talk to us ([email protected]), and we will help you start a new club so your people can find you. We are even thinking about starting a comedy writers club to help our staff in Tauranga.

Let Them Eat Cake

What better way to say “The WSU is running a half bakery, sandwich, soup and other student-friendly priced meals multiple times a week in the SUB (keep following us at @Waikatostudents for details),” than to let them eat Cake! (unless you already read the pie description). We are getting six somewhat freshly baked cakes and six hungry students, and we are finding out who can eat the cake the fastest. But that’s too easy so Max and Tayla will tie your hands behind your backs first. Let’s get messy!
