G’day, I’m Zac. Could have sworn I don’t look anything like that god-awful photo above, but whatever.
I grew up on the East Cape, near Ōpōtiki, so Hamilton is well and truly the big smoke for me. Never seen a traffic light before I moved here, so I’ve pretty much made it in life now; however, I do very much miss my home.
This is my second year as a Director. Away from that, I have a bunch of roles with the clubs alongside, but my main one is probably as President of the Computer Science Students’ Society. Overall, I just really love procrastinating from anything resembling actual work.
On the note of procrastinating from actual work, I’ve recently submitted my PhD thesis in maths. I highly recommend this line of perpetual study to those who want to: watch their friends rush ahead in life and do way cooler things than them, work on something that nobody gives a shit about, constantly be the weird old person hanging around kids, and face the fact that they’re actually an idiot, day in, day out, for years on end. Sound like a bit of you? Skip the workforce. Do your master’s. Do a PhD. YOLO.
On a serious note: I represent STEM students, postgraduate students, mature students, and the quiet nerd types who don’t typically say much in these forums. In contrast to the ramble above, I do like to get shit done, and I’m a firm advocate for student welfare and student rights. I sure didn’t run for WSU Director for the money or the glitz and glam (has anybody ever put those words alongside WSU Director?).
